Richa Kar was born in Jamshedpur and belongs from a very conventional family background. She was a brilliant student in her school lst or 2nd and had a good academic life. She completed her engineering from the reputed college of BITS Pilani. After completing her engineering, she worked in IT  sector for few years in Bangalore. Later on she proceeded to the Narsee Monji Institute of Management Studies(NSIMS) for completing her MBA in 2007. Started working with Spencers Retail and SAP as a retail consultant where she learned a lot about retail sector.

Struggles  Before  Starting Professional Carrier

When Richa Kar discussed with her mother about her idea of selling Women’s lingerie online, her mother was not ready to support in this. Her mother was worried that how she will tell her friends that her daughter is selling Bra-Panties Online. And she didn’t got support from her father as he didn’t get the concept of business. To get more insight about Lingerie business, she visited many Malls and shops and observed that women feel shy about buying lingerie offline as mostly shopkeepers are male. The first name came in the mind to open a online store for the lingerie business was not available and she had to sift from that name to Zivame.
Her Venture Was Criticized by The Peoples, Think even She Couldn’t Find a House on Rent. She Used To say She Sells Cloths Online , But She Stood Confidently

      Even after receiving so much criticism, Richa Kar didn’t lose hope. Finally, after sometime Zivame got a good response from its buyers.
First Client:- Richa got her first client from Indore who was trying to buy materials from her Worth of Rs. 7000. Gradually, Zivame claims growth of 300% yearly.

Professional Life of  Richa  Kar

While working for Spencers and SAP, Richa gained valuable retail experience that she carried to the startup world. During her time at SAP, she found herself working with a company, which owns Lingerie company Victoria’s Secret. She realized that online Lingerie Shopping in India was more a bottleneck for women than and experience. And the idea of selling Lingerie Online shows a great opportunity and she set this concept.

RICHA KAR IS THE CO-FONDER OF ZIVAME.

Miss Kar borrowed Rs. 30 lakh from friends and family to finance her new venture named Zivame.
She launched from a small office space on August 25th, 2011, received her first order 5 hours later.
ZIVAME named from the Hebrew word for “Radiance”, to help women understand their lingerie needs and browse and purchase styles and sizes according to their fitness and without embarrassment.
As the business grew, the company soght funding, raising $9 million in 2 rounds from investors including IDG Ventures, Kalaari Capital and Unilazer Venture. After 3 years of launch, Zivame had grown from a small operation to a team of more than 200 members.

Zivame is an online lingerie store featuring hundreds of styles for the Indian Womens, more than 500 styles, 50+ brands and 100 sizes and more. Selling online and realizing 5 million visitors, out of which 1 million are unique visitors.
